Anthony's research interests are in cancer genetics, and the molecular mechanisms associated with the onset of cancer. DNA methylation, and the mutations that affect the genes RB1, MecP2 and PTEN are of particular interest as these genes are responsible for retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye), Rett syndrome and Cowden disease.

He is also interested in new technologies, which can assist in the detection of various classes of mutation. Technologies such as two-dimensional gene scanning helps quickly identify mutation in retinoblastomas. For mutations in non-coding regions, conversion to haploidy will be used to try and pin-point their location.
