David trained in medical microbiology and infectious diseases in Christchurch and at Duke University Medical Centre, USA. He is a graduate of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and worked in rural Nepal for 2 years. David's particular interests include pneumonia, legionella infection, molecular diagnostic testing, parasitology, travel medicine, and high altitude medicine. David is also Head of Pathology at Christchurch School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
