Gavin trained at the University of Nottingham Medical School in the UK qualifying in 1993. He commenced postgraduate training in anatomical pathology in Nottingham UK in September 1996 and obtained MRCPath in March 2001. A post membership period of subspecialisation in breast pathology under Professor Chris Elston, Professor Ian Ellis and Dr Sarah Pinder followed until his completion of training in April 2003. Gavin commenced employment at CHL in November 2003.
