Lesney started her training at Kew Hospital, Invercargill and passed her Basic Training Certificate in 1972. She shifted to Timaru Hospital 1973 - 1977 where she passed Haematology and Immunohaematology qualifications.Lesney left the lab to have 3 children then returned 1981-1986. Lesney passed Clinical Biochemistry Part 1 and Diploma MLS in 1984 then shifted to Christchurch in 1986. Lesney worked 1993 - 1994 doing office manager accounts, Payroll,GST etc for a Building Company with up to 25 staff then went back to lab work in 1995 as a Technologist in Haematology until a position came up in Biochemistry. Lesney became Section Head of Core Biochemistry in 1997.
