Lois trained at Canterbury Health Labs (previously Pathology, CDHB) specialising in Microbiology qualifying in 1970. After an 8 year career break to have and care for her family she returned to Microbiology in 1978 and since then has maintained her bacteriology interest particularly in the surgical, ocular, genital and environmental fields
