Comments  Plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection. For accurate zinc levels we require blood to be taken off into a Becton Dickson Sodium Heparinised 7 mL Royal Blue Trace Metal Tube - these tubes can be identified by their Royal Blue top and a green 7 mL on the label (a red 7 mL on the label denotes that the plain tube does not contain anticoagulant). Due to the low usage of these tubes, stocks of these tubes may expire before they are used. However it is acceptable to use these tubes for up to 12 months after expiry providing the sample draw fills at least half the tube volume. Trevor Walmsley.
