CDHB hospitals have been busy but coping well in the last three and half days of strike action by MRTs (radiographers), according to Jock Muir, who is heading the CDHB’s contingency planning for the strike.
“There have been no major incidents at CDHB sites since the strike started but more than 20 life preserving requests were made of the Union during the weekend,” Mr Muir said.
“The Emergency Department was busier than expected over the weekend and we would like to remind people with minor injuries to call their GP for advice on where to go for medical attention. After hours they should call one of the after hours clinics for advice,”
People with major injuries should seek immediate help from Emergency Services.
The after hours clinics and private radiology providers have been collaborating with the CDHB to try and maintain essential radiology services for Canterbury people, Mr Muir said.
The strike will continue until Monday 20 November (except Friday 17 November) unless negotiations between the APEX Union and seven DHBs are successful before this time.
