The public is being reminded that the Medical Laboratory Workers Union strike will continue until 8am on Wednesday 6 December.
Anyone in Canterbury with a request form for a laboratory test is being advised to have the test done after the strike is over, unless it is needed urgently.
If the test needs to be done before Wednesday, they should visit a private pathology provider.
The strike, which started last Wednesday 29 November, has so far gone without any major incidents at Canterbury District Health Board hospitals.
“The hospitals have been coping and there have been no requests to laboratory workers for Life Preserving Services,” CDHB strike co-ordinator Jock Muir said.
“The impact of this strike was potentially very great but plenty of hard work from our contingency planners, good staff management of demand for laboratory services and support from the public have meant that we have been able to cope so far,” he said.
