The Canterbury District Health Board (DHB) has established the Community and Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee (CPHDSAC). This Committee replaces the previously separate Community and Public Health Advisory Committee and Disability Support Advisory Committee.

The role of this Committee is:
- to give the Board advice on the needs, and any factors the Committee believes may adversely affect the health status of the resident Canterbury DHB population and priorities for use of the health funding provided
- to give the Board advice on the disability support needs of the resident population of the Canterbury DHB and priorities for use of the disability funding provided.

The Committee will advise the Board on how services the Canterbury DHB provides or funds, along with the policies it adopts, will promote the inclusion and participation in society while maximising the independence of those people with disabilities within Canterbury. The Committee will also analyse reports made to it, and make recommendations based on this advice to the Board. The Committee’s advice must be consistent with the New Zealand Disability Strategy, the Government framework for the overall direction of the disability support sector.

The Committee will also advise the Board on how services the Canterbury DHB provides or funds, along with the policies it adopts, will maximise the overall health gain for Canterbury. The Committee will also analyse reports made to them and make recommendations to the Board. The Committee’s advice must be consistent with the New Zealand Health Strategy, the Government framework for the overall direction of the health sector.

The next public meeting of the Community and Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee will be advertised here, and in local newspapers, before the meeting is held.

Members of the public are welcome to attend, subject only to the right of the Community and Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee to decide to take some item(s) of business while the public are excluded. Copies of the agenda and associated reports will be available at the public meetings.

The agenda and associated reports of any public meeting are available for inspection (two working days prior to the meeting) at the Canterbury DHB's Corporate Office, Level 2, The Princess Margaret Hospital, Cashmere Road, Christchurch.
