Hospital Advisory Committee
The Board appoints members to the committees. The Committees comprise both board members and members of the public. They have a statutory governance role in monitoring the financial and operational performance of the hospitals the Canterbury DHB owns, as well as assessing strategic issues relating to the provision of hospital services; gives the Board advice and recommendations on that monitoring and assessment.| Hospital Advisory Committee Members | |

David Morrell - Chair |

David
Morrell has had 8 years on the District Health Board, was a
hospital chaplain, and had 22 years as Christchurch City
Missioner where he established new services for people with
alcohol, drug and mental health issues. He is committed to quality services accessible for all. He is a member of the CDHB Quality, Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and Chair of its Hospital Advisory Committee and its Brackenridge Estate.

Alister James |

Alister served 20 years as a Christchurch City Councillor and is a lawyer with a particular interest in adolescent health, mental health, alcohol and drug treatment services. He is keen to improve DHB and community relations. |

Peter Ballantyne |

Peter is Chair of Canterbury DHB's Quality, Finance, Audit and Risk
Committee and is a Chartered Accountant. Formerly a partner in Deloitte
he now acts in a consultancy role. He has experience in the aged care
sector and has financial accounting and auditing experience. |

Andrew Dickerson |

| Andrew has 25 years experience in the health and disability sectors and is a former Chief Executive of Age Concern Canterbury. He would like to see improved access to elective surgery and better integration of hospital and GP services. Andrew believes the results of rest home audits should be made public and is committed to improving accountability and transparency in the health service. | |

Olive is a Clinical Psychologist and independent Health and Disability Consultant with more than 35 years experience. She has served on the Board for seven years and is committed to rural health issues and delivery. |

Matea has been a GP for 30 years. He is of Ngai Tahu descent and Chairperson of the Ngai Tahu Runanga Health collective - Manawhenua ki Waitaha. He believes primary and secondary health services need to work together more efficiently. |

Chris Ryan |

An Ashburton GP for 20 years, Chris has been Chair of the Ashburton District Health Committee, GP representative Rural Canterbury PHO Board, Secretary of the Canterbury Faculty of the Royal NZ College of GPs and a GP education facilitator. Chris believes health professionals need to be involved in decision making, and money should be spent on effective projects. |

David Kerr is a Christchurch GP, having practised for the last 25 years in the Christchurch suburb of Dallington. David has been involved at a senior level in a number of health related organisations, being a director of Canterbury Health Ltd (1999-Oct 2000) and the founding Director and Chair of Pegasus Health (1993-98). Currently David is the Chairman of Ryman Healthcare Ltd, Director of Health Benefits Ltd and an advisor to Otago Healthcare Ltd. He has also held a number of offices at national level for professional organisations such as the NZ Medical Association. Over recent years David has had a particular interest in the integration of health care between hospitals and the community. |

A trustee of the NZIM foundation and past chairman of the College of Education Business School Advisory Committee. |

Trevor Read |

A health professional by background, Trevor has a keen interest in ICT
systems and process improvement within health provider units. Particular
skills include the provision of expert knowledge of health information
systems, policy development, clinical decision support and performance
improvement. Currently a senior management consultant specialising in
ICT and process management in the health and education sectors, he also
taught health informatics at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of
Technology until recently. For a number of years Trevor was also a Director in the Health, Education and Public Sector consulting team of Cap Gemini Ernst and Young. Trevor has served as a Board member of the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology and as a member of the National Nursing Manpower Planning Committee of the Ministry of Health. |

Teresa Chalecki |

| is a Registered Nurse and has extensive knowledge and experience in nursing and health management, both hospital and community based. Her health management experience includes four years at Christchurch Hospital, initially as a Service Manager and later as Medical Operations Manager. She is a committee member of the Canterbury Branch of the NZ Association of Gerontology and on the executive of the NZ Home Health Association. |
