Going Home Length of stay is determined by the mothers and babies wellbeing. Most will go home at 48 hours however for those with special needs or following caesarean section a longer stay may be arranged. We request discharge before lunch to allow for woman transferring to Lincoln. Well Child Health Book - Plunket Book This will be given to you after the birth with baby’s initial details recorded. Before going home please fill in the Request for Plunket Services form and return to the Midwife, who will forward it to your Plunket Nurse. Your Plunket Nurse will visit you usually within 1-2 weeks of your discharge from hospital. However earlier visits can be arranged. Should you not hear from Plunket notify your LMC who can make contact with them. Other Well Child services are offered by Te Puawaitanga (and your local GP). Should you require information or referral to other services and agencies such as LaLeche league, Lactation Consultants and various support groups, please do not hesitate to ask. Postnatal Examinations During your stay you will be checked by your LMC and the other staff midwives. It is important for you and
baby to have a follow up check six weeks after baby’s birth to
ensure all is well and to prevent or minimise any problems. Baby’s
vaccination program may commence at this age. Your LMC will
provide more information.
