Baby Care Your choice about feeding will be respected and assistance given. Baby's Feeding Lincoln is a BFHI (Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative) accredited facility. Lincoln Hospital as part of Women's & Children's Health Division is committed to breastfeeding and has a Breastfeeding Policy which is available to you on admission. All Midwives at Lincoln are committed to assisting you with establishing breastfeeding during your stay. Convey your choice to your LMC and Lincoln Midwife. Newborns require demand feeding ( ie according to need rather than scheduled by the clock). Remember, babies were invented before clocks. Please discuss fully any difficulties experienced with feeding a previous baby. Ask for help so we can ensure this is a pleasant experience. Suggested Items for Baby You are welcome to use your own baby clothes. Many parents prefer this option however we are unable to accept responsibility for any loss. Baby clothes are provided for your stay in hospital should you choose to use them. Car Seat – rental arranged via Plunket or the Yellow pages, this is your responsibility. Clothes for Going Home Napkins, gown or stretch and grow, jacket, Bonnet/hat, shawl, booties (Woollen for winter) Singlets one cotton and in winter a wool or wool and silk one as well. Baby Cares Your time with us is to learn to care for and feed your baby. By the time you are ready to
go home we hope you will be feeling competent and confident
to do this. The best way to achieve this is to get lots of practice.
You will be assisted with early nappy
changes and bathing then you will care fully for your baby. Midwives
will be there to help as required.
Your partner is encouraged to help care for your baby also -
most really enjoy the experience.
