Support & Additional Services Rangiora Hospital offers a range of additional maternity services including: Pregnancy Tests No appointment is necessary for this free service. Pregnancy Support for Fertility Centre Rangiora Hospital staff are available to administer medication to women attending the Fertility Centre on request from their consultant, as this maybe required out of office hours. Public Health Nurses Two Public Health Nurses operate from Rangiora Hospital Adult Community Services CAF Rural and North Sector have several counsellors who operate from Rangiora Hospital, every week day. Meals on Wheels The Rangiora Hospital kitchen provides between 40-50 Meals on Wheels per day, Monday - Friday, to Rangiora residents requiring this service. We have a team of volunteer drivers who kindly deliver these. General Convalescent Unit Rangiora also has a four-bed convalescent unit for general patients following general or gynae surgery or requiring respite care. Most come for a period of two weeks to recuperate. Referrals for convalescent care may be made through your GP or Social Worker. It is important to come with all prescribed medications on admission, aids for mobilisation, comfortable clothing. Postnatal Examination During your stay, the Rangiora Hospital Midwives (core staff) will care for you and your baby. Your LMC will visit daily to do your postnatal check. This postnatal examination consists of checking your well being, temp, blood pressure, pulse, breast and nipples, height of your fundus (uterus) amount and colour, Lochia (blood loss from vagina), passing of urine, bowel movement, legs and ensuring you are familiar with postnatal exercises. For the women who have caesarean sections or perineal sutures, the wound will be checked and analgesia requirements assessed. The baby will be assessed on how well he/she is feeding, frequency of feeds, amount of wet/dirty nappies, colour of stool, condition of umbilical cord, skin, jaundice spots and weight. Guthrie test are usually performed on the second day. |
