PRIMARY HEALTH ORGANISATIONS

GP Patient Fees Information

Except in a medical emergency, when you should call 111, you should see a general practitioner or practice nurse at a local general practice (often called medical or health centres) about the primary health care of you and your family. Almost all general practices in Canterbury are aligned with one of three Primary Health Organisations (PHOs). Enrolling with a PHO-aligned general practice entitles you to lower fees for seeing the doctor and/or practice nurse.

For information about PHO general practices, the services they offer, and the fees they charge, please use the following links:

Christchurch PHO
This is the PHO for the Riccarton Clinic, Moorhouse Medical Centre, University of Canterbury Health Centre, Casebrook Surgery and Burnside Medical Centre.

Partnership Health Canterbury
This is the PHO for most Christchurch general practices except those named above, plus general practices in the Selwyn District.

Rural Canterbury PHO
This is the PHO for practices in the following rural localities: Ashburton and mid-Canterbury, Waimakariri, Hurunui, Kaikoura, Akaroa and Diamond Harbour.

To find out more about PHOs and primary health care, please visit the Ministry of Health's website.
