– provides professional leadership for nurses within their particular hospital. This includes management, planning, development, ensuring the quality of nursing practice is maintained, and that staff and resources are utilised in such a way that ensures optimum patient care is delivered. Diana Gunn
Diana Gunn has been the Director of Nursing at Burwood
Hospital since 2001. Diana completed her Masters Degree in Health Science in Melbourne. During this time she worked as a palliative care nurse in the community and then became the Director of Nursing for the Melbourne City Mission Hospice Service. Diana trained at Christchurch Hospital, travelled and undertook post registration training in London. Her specialty was cancer nursing and she was in charge of the oncology ward at Christchurch Hospital before moving to Melbourne and switching to palliative care. Diana loves working at Burwood and has
seen many changes across the CDHB whilst working here. She
is looking forward to seeing what decisions will be made
that influence the ongoing development across the Older
Persons Health and Rehabilitation group. |

Heather Gray Heather is the Director of Nursing Med/Surg Division, Christchurch Hospital and was appointed to this position in July 2010, having been the Director of Nursing Ashburton and Rural Hospitals. Heather has an extensive nursing background and has held a number of senior roles in both tertiary and regional hospitals. Heather also holds an honorary position with the University of Otago as a Lecturer in Post Graduate Nursing Studies. As a nursing leader her strengths include the ability to inspire and lead teams, design service delivery processes and implement effective outcomes, whilst at the same time ensuring that the patient is at the centre of her practice.
Special areas of
interest are chronic conditions management, high acuity nursing care and
advanced nursing practice. |

Stuart Bigwood (PG Dip.HealSc. [Distinction], MHealsci) Stuart has been in this role since August 2007. He has an extensive background in community mental health nursing and previously worked at the Department of Psychological Medicine and Health Sciences, Christchurch School of Medicine, Otago University co-ordinating a Post Graduate paper (PSMX 405, Rehabilitation and Management of Mental Disorder). Stuart has a particular interest in clinical case management and recovery oriented practice. His Masters Degree explored the nurses experience of restraint. |

Samantha Burke Sam Burke is the Director of Midwifery for the
CDHB and was appointed to this position in October 2008. Having qualified and worked in the UK and then New Zealand Sam travelled and worked in Australia where she completed her Masters in Midwifery. Special areas of interest are the ongoing professional
development for midwives, succession planning for the midwifery
workforce and promotion of normal birthing. |
